SNOR-What It's All About

SNOR Logo

SNOR stands for Sustainable, Natural, Organic, and Regional

What do each of these terms mean?

SUSTAINABLE

Products designated as sustainable by a recognized third-party certifier. Certification ensures the future availability and health of the resources used to produce a product or service.

NATURAL

Products derived from natural (non-synthetic) food sources. Any alterations during production and processing must not change the composition of the original product.

Other food products may also be labeled “Natural”. A

Natural food product contains no artificial ingredients or added color and is only minimally processed. The label must explain the use of the term natural (such as - no added colorings or artificial ingredients; minimally processed.) (USDA).

ORGANIC

Products grown within the standards and requirements of the USDA Organic Code.

Three Categories:
  1. Products made entirely with organic ingredients can be labeled “100% Organic”.
  2. Products made with 95% organic ingredients can use the word “organic”.
  3. Products made with a minimum of 70% organic ingredients can be labeled “Made with Organic Ingredients”.

REGIONAL

Products grown or manufactured within the regional area designated by each FSA branch. Our region is the Pacific Northwest, consisting of eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana. FSA supports the economic and cultural identity of the Northwest through sponsorship of the award-winning Dining Out In The Northwest (www.diningoutinthenorthwest.com) Campaign, and through partnership with hundreds of regional manufacturers and growers.
