FDA Advisory - Spinach
Due to the national advisory by the Food and Drug Administration regarding a multi-state detection of E.coli 0157:H7 bacteria illnesses in bagged and fresh spinach, we are recommending that our customers destroy or return all bagged spinach and bagged salad mixes containing spinach in accordance with that warning.
We anticipate the FDA investigation to continue for at least the next few weeks. Food Services of America received recalled product from Natural Selection Foods at our Billings, Boise, Portland and Spokane branches. All customers who purchased the recalled product have been called and product in our warehouses has been isolated.
Food Services of America is holding and isolating all bagged spinach products and bagged products containing spinach until the FDA clarifies the source of the outbreak or our vendors have been cleared. Salad mixes without spinach in them are now being produced.
Our vendors are working with the FDA to clear our products and begin shipping again. We have urgently requested more detailed information for our customers.
Food Services of America has activated its standard protocol on contaminated products received from suppliers that identifies and isolates suspect products and restricts them from distribution. Suspect product in the marketplace that is unopened is also returned to prevent coming in contact with consumers.
