What's the secret to sky-high dessert sales? Getting creative with your presentation ideas is one way to set yourself apart. Try these cutting-edge ideas for dessert bars and sheet cakes.

Presentation Ideas for Single Servings

For a half portion, cut diagonally through the pieces.

For a lighter portion, serve a half portion with fresh fruit.
For ginger portions, cut the pieces into thirds.
For interesting sampler plates, use two half portions from different bars or cakes.
You can also feature two finger portions and a half portion with a garnish.

Icing Ideas

With an icing spatula, draw diagonal lines across an iced sheet cake, approximately two inches apart. Repeat in opposite direction for a criss-cross pattern.

To add interest, try this:

  • Ice a ice sheet cake.
  • Fill a pastry bag using a #4 or #7 tip with contrasting icing color.
  • Place horizontal lines approximately 1-1/2 inches apart across the iced surface.
  • Slide an icing spatula across the horizontal lines approximately 3 inches apart in one direction. 
  • Rotate the cake 180 degrees and repeat.
