Product Security and Food Safety

Summary

Food Services of America prides itself in maintaining the integrity of the food products placed in our control by our vendors and suppliers. While we operate a case in/case out service, and do not produce or package any of the products we handle, we protect those products in our care by consistently surpassing the most stringent food safety standards as required by the USDA and FDA in our daily operations.

Security Guidelines

Events in the world have heightened the safety concerns of Food Services of America customers. While quality and security are always our highest priority, there are specific actions that Food Services of America have implemented to further reduce the risk of an actual or perceived tampering or containment incident.

Food Services of America has reviewed and strengthened all current procedures pertaining to:

  • Inspection of trucks and trailers for the presence of foreign matter prior to unloading or loading products.
  • Access to our facilities.
  • Department of Transportation background checks on all delivery drivers.
  • Damaged product procedures.
  • Identification of possible contamination issues of products at the customer location and communication to the proper authorities if such a risk is present.
  • In addition, we encourage Food Services of America Associates who regularly move freely through the warehouse to report suspicious activity.

FAQ

Do you have any policies in place regarding food safety concerns?
Yes, please refer to our Company Policies page for more information.

Are GMPs and GDPS currently in place?
Yes, through Good Manufacturing and Distribution Practices.

Is HACCP required in your production of products?
For seafood only. FSA also has an HACCP plan in place for the entire facility.

Do you use third party inspection services?
Every warehouse is inspected annually by a third party (Silliker Labs and AIB).

Is a background check performed on drivers transporting products to your customers?
Yes, currently, the Department of Transportation (DOT) may require background checks for drivers who transport reportable quantities (1,000 lbs or more) of hazardous materials. Since it is FSA's policy NOT to transport "reportable quantities," we are not required by the DOT to do the background checks. FSA is required to investigate the past 3 years of employment, as well as motor vehicle records for the past 3 years, in addition to the standard new hire information that is collected.

Does your facility have a proper security program in place that covers adulteration of products?
Yes, the HACCP Plan.

Do you test your finished products for contaminants?
Yes, periodic tests are performed on products for microbiological information.

Do you check each and every shipment of raw materials for contaminants?
Yes, in-bound products and trailers are reviewed.
